What happened to it

How garage door panels get damaged.

The cause matters, because some of these point to a problem that will damage the new panel too if it isn't fixed at the same time.

Hit by a car

The most common one. A bumper catches the bottom or second section, creases the steel, and often bends the track or knocks rollers out along with it.

How you know: A crease or dent at bumper height, and often a door that now binds or sits crooked.

Top section bent by the opener

When a spring breaks or the door is out of balance, the opener tries to lift the full weight and bends the top section where the arm attaches. Replacing the panel without fixing the spring means it will bend again.

How you know: A bow or crack in the top section near the center bracket, usually after a spring broke.

Rot, rust, and water damage

Wood bottom sections rot where water sits against them, and steel ones rust from the bottom up, especially with a worn bottom seal.

How you know: Soft or crumbling wood, or rust and bubbling paint along the bottom edge.

Everyday dents

Basketballs, lawn equipment, bikes, and hail. Usually cosmetic, but a dent near a hinge or a section joint can stop the door from folding cleanly around the curve.

How you know: Dents that are purely cosmetic, or ones where the door catches at the same point every time.

How it works

How a panel replacement goes.

Send a photo

A photo of the damage and one of the whole door, plus any label on the inside of the door, tells us a lot before we come out.

Measure and identify

We identify the door model, measure the section, check the track and hardware, and confirm a match is available. You get a firm quote and the lead time.

Order the section

The section is ordered from the manufacturer in the matching style and color.

Install and balance

The damaged section comes out, the new one goes in with fresh hinges where needed, and the door is re-balanced and tested.

Why Ferguson's

Why call Ferguson's for a damaged panel.

Amarr dealer

We sell and install Amarr doors, so sections for Amarr models are straightforward to order. We source sections for other brands when they're still made.

We fix the cause too

Bent track, knocked rollers, a broken spring. Whatever damaged the panel gets fixed in the same job so the new section lasts.

Honest repair-vs-replace

If a new door is the better spend, we'll show you the numbers side by side. If it isn't, we won't push one.

What affects the cost

What moves the price on a panel replacement.

The section itself is often the smaller part of the bill. What changes the number is which section, what else got damaged with it, and what's available for your door. Estimates are free.

Which section

The top and bottom sections carry extra hardware (the opener bracket, the bottom seal and retainer) and cost more to swap than a middle one.

Door construction

Insulated, non-insulated, and windowed sections are priced differently, and sections with windows cost more.

Collateral damage

A car hit often bends track and knocks out rollers too. We price those separately so you can see where the money goes.

Availability

If your door's sections are no longer made, the choice becomes a repair or a new door. We quote both.

Panel replacement questions.

Have a question that isn't here? Call (540) 293-0197 and you'll get a straight answer.

Can you replace just one panel?
Usually, yes. A garage door is built from horizontal sections, and a damaged section can be swapped on its own as long as a matching one is still made for your door. That's cheaper than a new door. We'll confirm on the first visit whether a match is available.
Will the new panel match the rest of the door?
When the manufacturer still makes your door model, the new section matches in style, profile, and factory color. On a door that's been in the sun for fifteen years, a new section can look a shade brighter than the old ones at first. We'll tell you honestly before ordering if we think the difference will bother you.
What if my door's panels aren't made anymore?
Then a section swap isn't possible, and the choice is a repair to the damaged section, if it's minor, or a new door. We'll show you both costs side by side. Sometimes one damaged section on a door that's also near the end of its life makes replacement the better spend.
How long does a panel replacement take?
Usually two visits. The first is to measure and identify the door so we order the right section. Sections come from the manufacturer, and we give you the lead time when we order. The install itself usually takes a couple of hours.
Is it safe to use the door with a dented panel?
A small cosmetic dent, usually yes. A creased or buckled section, a cracked panel near a hinge, or a bent top section where the opener arm attaches is different. Those can bind in the track or fail under load. If the door moves unevenly or makes new noises, stop using the opener and call.
Does homeowners insurance cover a damaged panel?
Sometimes, if a car or a storm caused it. It depends on your policy and deductible. We can give you a written quote for your insurance company.
